Rutland Area Shepherds will be holding a body condition scoring workshop on December 4, 2016 from 1-3 pm at the farm of Liz Willis in Florence VT. The course will be taught by Joe Emenheiser and Jim McRae.

Body condition scoring is one of the most important tools a shepherd can have to assess the health of their animals. It works on all breeds and can reveal the condition of sheep even in full fleece. It is a relatively easy skill to learn and essential in managing the health of your flock. This will be a hands on clinic. Everyone will have a chance to score several sheep and have feedback from the instructors. Joe is the former livestock extension agent in Vermont and has experience using and demonstrating the procedure. Jim has scored thousands of sheep and has been used as an expert witness in a USDA case on the scoring procedure.
