Farming for a sustainable future specializing in Finns & Maremma LGD

AJ’s Happy Chick Farm is a 140-acre mixed farm specializing in Finnsheep and Maremma Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGD). Ram and ewe lambs are available in June, and lamb meat in October. Our Finns are bred for temperament, fiber, overall health, and resistance to disease. They are pasture-raised using twice-weekly rotational grazing all season. Annual individual fecal testing is done for selective worming. Our pastures and hay are certified organic with the VOF, and supplemental grain is also organic.
Round and square bales will be available later in the season forage reports available.

Additional items for sale include 5-6” staple raw fleeces and roving (both dyed and natural). Yarn will be available starting the fall of 2021.

AJHC is registered with the Finn Sheep Breeders Association and available lambs have USDA scrapie tags. All lambs are comfortable with LGD, adults, and children. Those culled from breeding stock make wonderful pet/fiber family members. We love pairing up people with compatible lambs. We welcome visitors by appointment to meet all the animals and see the stunning 130-year-old historical homestead.

AJHC is a registered breeder with the Maremma Sheepdog Club of America. We are anticipating a litter from Baron and Duchess this fall. Both dogs have wonderful, friendly dispositions, and interact well with adults and children. Feedback from new litter owners confirms that the incredible guardian instinct is as strong in the young Maremmas as it is in the parents. Applications for the 2021 litter are now being accepted. Please email for more information.
