Culling Workshop

October 16, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Rutland Area Shepherds in conjunction with the VSGA will be sponsoring a Culling Seminar with Joe Emenheiser on Wednesday, October 16th, at 7pm at the Rutland Regional Hospital Leahy Conference Center.

One of the most important decisions you have to make with your flock is who to keep and who has to go. Whether your raising lambs for meat or hand spinning fleeces, culling is an important management strategy. It involves honestly looking at priorities and having data to back up decisions. We all know how important breeding decisions are to the improvement of our flock. Culling is as important. Together they are powerful tools to help us reach our goals.

Joe Emenheiser is currently a biology lecturer at UVM and an independent livestock consultant. He was formerly the Vermont state livestock specialist with UVM Extension, and has an extensive sheep industry background. He earned a PhD in Animal and Poultry Science from Virginia Tech.

This is a time when many of us are making culling decisions. Come join us. All are welcome and the seminar is free. RAS will provide refreshments. Please RSVP for planning purposes at dogandcrookfarm@yahoo.com.
