St. Mary’s on-the-Hill Cashmere

Greenwich, NY

The Community of St. Mary is the oldest American monastic foundation in the Anglican tradition, with houses in Greenwich, NY, and Luwinga, Malawi, Africa. Their convent and St. Mary’s on-the-Hill Farm are located adjacent to Christ the King Spiritual Life Center, a Christian conference center owned and run by the Episcopal Diocese of Albany.

The Sisters raise award-winning North American Cashmere Goats to sell as breeding stock and to produce fine cashmere yarn and roving. Sire bucks are available for hire to certified healthy herds. The Sisters also spin locally-purchased wool, and do fiber and other arts as just one aspect of their larger life of prayer, service and ministry.

The Sisters sponsor a special interest 4-H Club which is open to youth who own or lease Cashmere goats. Activities are concentrated in Washington County, NY, but the club is open to qualifying youth outside the county and across state lines. Applications for the farm’s summer internship program, are accepted in the spring. Contact Sister Mary Elizabeth for more information.
