Goat Dairy Staff

The Goat Dairy at Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home is looking to expand our small and hard-working team. This season we are milking 22 does from our herd of Nubians. The milk is made into artisanal cheese and small batches of soap. The dairy is a state-of-the-art facility that is open to our guests where they can learn about the goats and each step of the cheesemaking process. In addition, the Goat Dairy is part of Hildeneā€™s larger mission and regularly hosts school groups, day camps, workshops and other programming throughout the year.

We are seeking to fill one full time position with a person focused on working with our dairy goat herd. Applicants should be eager to learn about our herd management and able to work as part of a team, as well as independently. Cleanliness and attention to detail and herd health are essential to working at the goat dairy. Experience with animal husbandry, milking and administration of vaccines is helpful, but not required. A willingness to learn is most important. Farmworkers may work some long days, early mornings, holidays and weekends so flexibility with scheduling is required.

Responsibilities on the farm include: feeding goats, cleaning the barn, assisting in record keeping, maintaining fences, following rotational grazing procedures and giving occasional tours to guests and school groups. Candidates should be comfortable working with the public and able to lift 50 pounds safely.

Work is physically demanding but rewarding and requires a good attitude and willingness to work as a team. All staff members are expected to welcome Hildene guests and answer questions, as well as work with our crew of volunteers. Hildene logo clothing is required and is supplied. We would like this person to begin as soon as possible.
